GUEST EDITOR ENTRY

Since I started my journal to share my experience supporting the troops...I am extremely honored to be chosen as Guest Editor the week of Memorial Day.

I'm pretty new to the AOL journal 'fold' here, as I only started this journal in March. My little 'All About Me' blurb and my info at the top of the page pretty much has me covered
My first journal entry describes how I came to join Soldiers Angels, and shortly after that I wrote why I started this journal.(I know,THAT should have been the First entry, but sometimes I do things a little backwards, lol.)

And I think that's enough to say about me:) because one of the things that all 3 of my readers (thanks,Mom, Sis, and Missy!)know is that I LOVE to post LINKS!!!

Reading MILBLOGS  is what led me to become a member of Soldiers Angels, and there are several very good milblogs right here on AOL:

Destination:Iraq    Carter is doing a wonderful job , in his words....."to  give  loved ones and strangers a small insight into the challenges and dangers soldiers are facing every day over here."

For the OTHER war front, Bruce's Deployment to Afghanistan is a treasure of weekly updates on what he is doing, and pictures.

My OIF Deployment is Kristi 's effort to tell you what it's like for an Army National Guard single mom to get ready to leave for deployment.(And I hope she'll be able to continue blogging after she reaches Iraq.)

In the non-AOL category, Matt at Blackfive's SOMEONE YOU SHOULD KNOW series has introduced me to some amazing stories of heroism and courage.

Through Blackfive, I was led to Holly Aho-Soldiers Angel ....who blogs the way I aspire to, and is an awesome supporter of the troops in countless ways.

And another fantastic troop supporter,Kat at Yikes!  reminds us of what's important to remember, especially this holiday weekend.(and I have greatly enjoyed being able to participate in some of her projects.)

Joe told me "6 to 8" picks, lol, and I did want to particularly mention two more blogs listed on my 'Favorite Sites'.

Capt.Jason  is a blog about a soldier recovering from an IED. It's written by his mother, who is a hospice chaplain, and has been staying at Walter Reed as his caregiver....and she is also active in the peace movement. A most interesting perspective, and a very thought-provoking read.

And Learning to Live  is Heidi's blog of  her journey as a war widow, which seems an appropriate blog to conclude this list with on Memorial Day weekend.

And this Memorial Day, I urge all of you to consider pausing at 3 pm for the

to " remember the sacrifices of America's fallen from the Revolutionary War to the present"
and to... "Recognize those who served and those who continue to serve "..

In closing, here is a link to the poem   "Will They Remember?"   by a Marine.

(The picture with this post came from the Arlington National Cemetery website. )

My thanks again to Joe, and AOL, for this opportunity to be Guest Editor! Thanks also to all of you who have stopped by here......please feel free to look around , or check out some of my other links on the left, and/or leave a comment....and y'all are always welcome to stop by again!

Thanks for featuring my AOL Journal on your Guest Editor Entry. It is very surprising to me the amount of interest in my story here in Afghanistan. It means a lot to know people are reading and interested in how the "troops" are doing in the OTHER WAR. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Congratulations on the guest editor slot.  My cousins have served and are serving in both Iraq and Afganistan.  I pray all the time for the protection of our troops and for the intervention, especially, of Servant of God Father Vincent Cappodanno (The Grunt Padre).  You are doing good work.  Keep it up.

Kathi, your contribution is awesome and you have picked an outstanding list of blogs and links to share during your Guest Editor of the Week stint! I know it had to be hard to choose so few. ;)
I'm really happy you were featured during Memorial Day weekend because as I've mentioned so many times, you have a true heart to serve the troops and to help others find soldiers to adopt.  God bless!

I have never done the blog thing before, but this is something I'm so glad to have come across. I just wanted to say that we can't forget all our soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afganastan. It's hard to believe the this war has now entered it's third year.  Although we hear about it on the news everyday, I think too many people forget and treat it as old news. I feel that weather or not we agree with this War or not, we need to continue the support and prayers. In the beginning the post offices were overwellmed with care packages and letters, we need to continue and let them know they are not forgotten. HBO came out with a new show called Bagdad ER, and if you want a rude awakining to what these Men and Women, many just out of highschool are going through, you really need to tune in. It is not for anyone with a weak stomach. I had mixed emotions about watching the show. I have watched it a few times already, but always with a heavy heart and never a dry eye. It will remind you of what these couragous go through and how dedicated they are.

After reading your blog, once again, it came to my mind, just how short the memories of most Americans truly are.  When we experienced the tradgedy of September 11th and all that when with that date across our nation, there was an immediate out pouring of kindness and solidarity in local neighborhoods.

I can still rember driving my husband to the train station that night, so he could go into Manhattan to work - as he did every other night.  Both going to the station and coming home there were people in the streets with strangers, waving American flags, lighting candles while drivers were beeping their collective car horns, to show support for each other and PRIDE was palpable.

Here we are almost six years later, the crowds have gone, the candles blown out, the car horns silent, Amreican flags not so obvious...and still soldiers die.  How short is our collective memory?  Where are the American flags?  Where are the strangers in the street today?  How are we really supporting our troops?

Maggie :-)

What you are doing is a wonderful thing, we need never to forget our heros in uniform.  However, all journals are not treated equal.  AOL stole my journal and won't give it back and took it offline.  All because somebody hacked into it, wrote something unacceptable , and AOL punished me for it.  My journal was "THE TERRIBLE TRUTH ABOUT CPS/DCS".  Yes, it was controversial, but it was supposed to be.  Some of us have come up against something that is bigger than most people are aware.  I was probably shut down by the child protective agancy because I got too close to revealing the truth about their covert activities.  Remember, our heros are protecting our right to be free,  Who helps us when they can't help those of us at home?  Not the courts, not the feds, nobody is safe at home any more.  GOD HELP US ALL, MOSTLY OUR CHILDREN AND THE FAMILY UNIT WE KNOW AND HOLD TO BE SACRED.  GOD CHOOSES WHO TO BE MEMBERS OF A FAMILY, NOT CHILDREN'S PROTECTIVE SERVICES.  RESEARCH, PROVE ME WRONG.  BUT AT LEAST RESEARCH, IT'S HOW I FOUND OUT THE TRUTH.
